Kevin Hanek is an award-winning New York book designer and packager. He began his design career in 1995 as a Senior Designer with Simon & Schuster's Macmillan General Reference division, where he was responsible for jacket and text designs for over one hundred titles. Subsequently, Mr. Hanek has collaborated on book projects with publishers including Rizzoli, Simon & Schuster, Lebhar-Friedman Books, The Free Press, Rutgers University Press, Schirmer Books, Kodansha, Sterling, and Smithmark, and in conjunction with such prestigious organizations as The New York Times, the American Academy of Chefs, The History Channel, The Culinary Institute of America, Consumers Digest magazine, Nation's Restaurant News, and DiRoNA (Distinguished Restaurants of North America).

Past projects include the art direction and design of the American Academy of Chefs' cookbook American Harvest (2000, Lebhar-Friedman Books), named Outstanding Cookbook in the 2001 Independent Publishers Book Awards, The Culinary Institute of America's Book of Soups (2001, Lebhar-Friedman Books) and Gourmet Meals in Minutes (2004, Lebhar-Friedman Books), and Jane and Michael Stern's Blue Plate Specials and Blue Ribbon Chefs (2001, Lebhar-Friedman Books); and text designs for Persian Mirrors (2000, The Free Press), a New York Times Notable Book, Mary Higgins Clark's Mount Vernon Love Story (2002, Simon & Schuster), and Felipe Fern'ndez-Armesto's IACP Award-winning Near a Thousand Tables (2002, The Free Press).

More recent projects include designs for the twentieth-anniversary edition of the Windows on the World Complete Wine Course and its sibling, Kevin Zraly's American Wine Guide (Sterling), as well as the art direction, design, and production of The Culinary Institute of America's Grilling and One Dish Meals (Lebhar-Friedman Books), Snapshots of Bloomsbury (a joint publication of the Tate, London, and Rutgers University Press), the exhibition catalog for A Century of African American Art (a joint publication of the University Museum, University of Delaware, and Rutgers University Press), and the companion book for PBS's The Harriman Alaska Expedition Retraced (Rutgers University Press). Most recently, Mr. Hanek won third place in the Specialty Trade Cookbook division of the 2005 New York Book Show for his work on The Culinary Institute of America's Breakfasts & Brunches (2005, Lebhar-Friedman Books). He was a winner of the 2004 American Association of University Presses (AAUP) Book, Jacket, and Journal Show for his cover design for Tace Hedrick's Mestizo Modernism (2003, Rutgers University Press), as well as the first-place award in the Trade Interior Design category in the 2002 New York Book Show for his work on Pulitzer Prize-winner Garry Wills' book Venice: Lion City (2001, The Free Press).
